Published on August 26, 2019, Information, Communications and Technology Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has assured Kenyans that personal data captured during the ongoing national population census would be secured.

Mucheru emphasized that the data is confidential and safely protected, and that no third party would have access to it.

Speaking at his rural home in Chaka, Nyeri County, where he was counted in the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census, Mucheru noted the importance of the exercise in helping the country accelerate its economic growth.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga also urged Kenyans to provide factual and accurate information to enable the government to plan for its people.

Meanwhile, the details of street families were captured during the census, with the counting of the group concluded in Nairobi with about 60,000 members calling the city home.

According to estimates, there are around 300,000 street persons in the country, with 60,000 residing in Nairobi.

However, hesitance among some of the members delayed the process, which was eventually completed with the intervention of their caretaker.
