Five Arrested for Impersonating Census Officials in Kenya ¶
On August 25, 2019, Nyanza Regional Police Commander, Vincent Makhoha, announced the arrest of five individuals who were impersonating census officials and committing crimes at night.
According to Makhoha, the suspects were arrested in Homa Bay and Kisumu counties after they were found to be using the ongoing census exercise to commit crimes.
One of the suspects was allegedly attacked and forced to flee while conducting the census in Homa Bay.
Police have increased security measures to ensure the safety of census officials and the public.
On August 26, 2019, Makhoha stated, "We are still investigating to determine if there are other individuals impersonating census officials and committing crimes."
He added that two other suspects were arrested in Homa Bay and Migori counties.
