Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama has finally won back his Mua Hills home from his ex-wife Agnes Kavindu after a five-year court battle.
According to reports, Muthama now wants to convert the abandoned house into a base for his political activities. It will also serve as the meeting point for all his children sired with different women.
"I have taken over my home that was abandoned and renovations are going on as we speak. Once completed, anybody seeking to visit must be vetted. It will also be a meeting point for all the entire Muthama children," Muthama said.
Despite reclaiming his home, Muthama has built a separate home for Kavindu's three children about 10km away from the Mua Hills property. The five-bedroom home sits on a 45-acre piece of land and features a servants' quarters, borehole, and a standby generator.
"I am an African man who cannot wish away his blood. She could have come to live with our son because it is a home she could have used to be associated with Muthama indirectly," Muthama said.
Muthama added that he holds no grudge against Kavindu but she will have to live like all the other divorced women. "But she will have to live like all the other divorced women. She will not be the first or the last," he said.
The court battle between Muthama and Kavindu dates back to 1983 when their marriage was judicially dissolved. Kavindu was evicted from Muthama's Mua home through a High Court ruling that found she was not married to Muthama.
Published on August 26, 2019, the court case made headlines during the 2017 elections when Kavindu was gunning for the Machakos Women Rep post on a Jubilee ticket, while Muthama was in NASA. Muthama warned her against using his name during campaigns.
