Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has urged residents to reject the Tanga Tanga faction's 2022 succession-driven politics, emphasizing alignment with President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga for regional development. The lawmaker highlighted that Ruto's camp offers no tangible benefits beyond political maneuvering, citing his 2019 nationwide campaign activities.

Waruguru, who previously supported Tanga Tanga, announced a political realignment after meeting Odinga at his Capitol Hill office on June 9, 2020. She told Laikipia youths, "Uhuru is the president, Baba (Raila) ni baba na Mama ni mama," framing the Handshake alliance as the path to progress. Her remarks followed claims that Kenyatta and Odinga would soon launch development projects in the region during a joint tour.

The MP criticized Tanga Tanga members for prioritizing 2022 election strategies over immediate benefits, stating, "Development and support for progressive activities cannot be found in Tanga Tanga but only in government which is currently led by Uhuru." She warned that aligning with Ruto's faction risked losing future opportunities, despite his 2019 campaign presence in Nakuru county.
