On August 21, 2019, DJ Kriss Darlin, a veteran reggae DJ, submitted his application to the ODM headquarters to contest in the Kibra by-election.
He claims to know the people of Kibra and their needs, having been born there. 'I have been there with them, I was born there, I know what they go through on a daily basis,' he said.
Despite being a successful DJ, earning a decent living and touring worldwide, Kriss Darlin wants to represent the people of Kibra and be their voice.
However, his bid for the ODM ticket was met with controversy when he knelt before party leader Raila Odinga on August 25, 2019, in a bid to get an endorsement.
He risked everything by going down on his knees, saying, 'I have heard that there are many young men in Parliament fighting Baba (Raila), allow me as their fellow youth to go fight them in there as you wait to fight in 2022.'
He also declared his readiness to be shot if it meant Raila would win the 2022 poll.
Kriss Darlin is set to battle it out alongside 26 other ODM hopefuls for the ticket, which would see one candidate take on others for the vacant Kibra seat.
