Published on August 26, 2019, Kisumu County Finance and Economic Planning Executive Nerry Achar has announced plans to introduce a new bill aimed at ensuring that revenue collected from businesses is ploughed back into improving services for them.
The move follows recommendations from the traders under the aegis of the Kisumu Business Coalition during the recent County Dialogue Forum in the town.
According to Mr. Achar, the county will draft a new bill to address the business community's concerns about service delivery. He emphasized that a bigger percentage of the service fees and charges collected from businesses will go back to where they are collected from.
For instance, if revenue is collected from markets, it should be used to improve services in the market, such as security, sanitation, and infrastructure.
The Kisumu Business Coalition had urged the county to ring-fence revenues collected from businesses to ensure that they receive better services.
