On August 26, 2019, Yara Fertiliser Company and Kenya Seed Company (KSC) embarked on a joint venture to enhance maize production in the North Rift region. This move aims to increase yields and improve the quality of crops for local farmers.
As part of this initiative, a networking group of agro-economists has been established to offer training and technical services to farmers on best farming practices. This collaboration is expected to boost the structural strength of crops and prevent falling during wind periods.
Yara Commercial Director Vitalis Wafula stated, "The cereal boost enhances the efficiency of the crop to uptake the fertiliser and also improve the crop’s structural strength to avoid falling."
Additionally, Yara has introduced a department called Yara Farm Weather, which provides farmers with accurate weather information to facilitate timely planting and minimize wastage.
Kenya Seed Company Production Manager Eunice Ombachi emphasized the importance of close collaboration between the companies and farmers to achieve the Big Four agenda on enhancing food security.
