Published on August 26th, 2019, the Kibra parliamentary by-election is shaping up to be a closely contested affair, with at least 26 candidates vying for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

ODM leader Raila Odinga announced that the party will hold a nomination exercise on Saturday, August 31st, to decide who among the 26 candidates will fly the party's flag in the mini-poll.

Among the notable candidates eyeing the ODM ticket are Benson Musungu, the ODM National Youth Coordinator, Imran Okoth, the late MP Ken Okoth's brother and personal assistant, Reggae DJ Kriss Darlin, Sigar Agumba, Peter Orero, the Dagoretti High School Principal, and Ochieng Jera.

However, Odinga's daughter Rosemary Odinga has dismissed claims that she is interested in the seat left vacant following the death of MP Ken Okoth.

"I will not be able to vie in Kibra, but I wanted to come here today to greet and talk to you and to say I will keep interacting with you to the end," said Odinga.

MP Ken Okoth succumbed to colorectal cancer while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital on July 26th, 2019.
