Newcastle Stuns Tottenham with Joelinton's Goal ¶
Joelinton's first-half goal gave Newcastle United a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 25, 2019, securing their first Premier League victory of the season.
Steve Bruce earned his first win since taking over as Newcastle boss, with Joelinton scoring the solitary goal that separated the two sides.
Tottenham have effectively dropped to seventh with four points, after their loss to Newcastle.
Joelinton's goal in the 27th minute was the only difference as Newcastle United stunned Tottenham to bag their first win of the new season.
Spurs were seeking to return to winning ways a week after holding champions Manchester City to a 2-2 draw at Etihad Stadium.
However, they failed to take advantage of their squad depth and home support as Newcastle held on to cart away all three points.
The visitors had the earliest chance to break the deadlock in the 23rd minute through Longstaff, but his effort was superbly saved by Hugo Lloris.
With Spurs doing little to press the ball, Newcastle bagged the opener four minutes later via Joelinton, who expertly lashed his strike low past Lloris.
The homeside nearly equalised in the 45th minute, but Lucas Moura skewed wide under pressure from Atsu, missing a Harry Kane cross.
Steve Bruce's wards came close to doubling the lead in the 88th minute after a well-executed counter attack but fluffed the chance.
The Magpies eventually held on to claim a 1-0 slim victory away from home.
