Kenya's lawn bowling teams have made significant strides in the Africa Bowls Championship, held at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi from August 24 to 25, 2019.

Despite finishing second with 29 points, Kenya's men's team showcased impressive skills, winning gold in the singles, silver in the pairs, and bronze in both the trips and fours.

The women's team, however, faced stiff competition, securing silver medals in the trips and bronze in the pairs, while finishing fourth in the fours.

Kenya's overall silver medal marks a significant improvement from the 2017 championships in South Africa, where they took bronze.

According to Kenya men's team manager Bernard Ndung'u, the lack of public training greens in the country is a major challenge facing the players and their coaches.

"Countries like South Africa have invested in public greens, attracting over 4,000 players to the sport and giving them a larger pool of players to pick from when they want to compete," Ndung'u said.

He emphasized the need for the government to invest in public facilities to grow the sport and give it the recognition it deserves.

Kenya's teams are now training for the next championships in 2021 in Namibia, while individual players like Benson Kariuki and Eunice Mbugua prepare for international tournaments.
