As of today, August 25, 2019, the Kenya Immigration Department has introduced an appointment system for e-passport applications. This move is aimed at reducing the long queues that have become synonymous with the centre.

According to the department, all applicants must book an appointment in advance at the e-citizen portal, specifying the date, time, and station of convenience. This applies to all persons wishing to submit their e-passport applications.

Those who have already made online applications for the e-passport are advised to revisit the e-citizen portal and book their appointments.

However, not all Kenyans will be required to book appointments. The department has made some exclusions, including sick persons who have urgent appointments to travel for medical attention, students on scholarships, public servants on urgent official assignment, and business executives on urgent official business visits abroad.

For those exempted, evidence will be mandatory to support their claims.

This move comes shortly after the extension of the e-passport deadline from August 31st, 2019, to 1st March 2020, following a directive from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Immigration Department has also rolled out the issuance of e-passports in four new locations locally, including Nakuru, Kisii, Eldoret, and Embu, where at least 1,500 passports will be processed daily.
