On August 25, 2019, a shocking incident occurred in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) when Geoffrey Kwatemba, a communication officer attached to Governor Alfred Mutua's press team, was abducted by unknown persons.
According to his wife, Millie Kwatemba, Geoffrey had just arrived in Nairobi from Kapenguria, where he had attended a function with friends. He was trying to locate a matatu to head to their residence in Nairobi's Njiru estate when he was accosted by unknown people along Moi Avenue.
Millie received a distress text from her husband, stating, "Please pray for me. I have been kidnapped by unknown people and we are moving around and I don't know where we are going." He also replied to her inquiry about who he was with, saying, "I am in a dark room and I am not even allowed to call."
Geoffrey's wife reported the incident at Kayole Police Station, but the details of the ransom demanded by the abductors remain unclear.
