Sean Andrews, the grandson of former President Mwai Kibaki, has spoken publicly about his long-standing battle with depression, which began after the loss of his maternal grandfather at the age of 13.
Published on August 25, 2019, in an interview with The Standard, Sean revealed that he had contemplated suicide and was further bullied in school, exacerbating his situation.
"When I lost my maternal grandfather, I went through depression and it got so bad that I wanted to take my life at some point," Sean said.
He described his grandfather as his rock, his best friend, and the only person he felt safe with. After his death, Sean became paranoid and vulnerable to exploitation, which worsened his mental health.
Sean's struggles with depression persisted for many years, but he eventually sought help and began to heal. He credits his loved ones for preventing him from taking his own life and notes that he is now in a much better place.
Sean, a fashionista, social media marketer, and vlogger, has chosen to study psychology to help others suffering from depression and mental illnesses, drawing from his own experiences.
