On Saturday night, a census enumerator in Maseno, Kisumu County, was brutally gang raped and robbed by unknown attackers.
According to Nyanza police boss Dr. Vincent Makhoha, the woman was ambushed outside her gate after she had been dropped off by her supervisor following completion of the census exercise.
Dr. Makhoha stated that the suspects were hiding in a thicket near the woman's gate and pounced on her immediately she was dropped off, escaping with her torch and power bank but leaving behind all other census material.
The police boss confirmed that a hunt has been launched for the attackers and that the County Statistics Department has ordered the immediate suspension of the supervisor who dropped the woman due to negligence.
The supervisor, as well as police officers who were deployed in the area to offer security for the census team, have been summoned to record statements with the police in Maseno who are probing the incident.
The woman is currently in a stable condition and receiving treatment.
