Former CS Mwangi Kiunjuri Recalls Public Humiliation by President Kenyatta ¶
Mwangi Kiunjuri, former Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, has publicly addressed his strained relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta, detailing a 2019 incident that left him deeply affected.
During the Nairobi International Trade Fair in October 2019, Kenyatta publicly reprimanded Kiunjuri, an experience the former CS described as the most humiliating of his 25-year political career. Kiunjuri revealed that his son witnessed the event, adding to his emotional distress.
"The President reprimanded me in public, and I still remember it because it was the worst humiliation. My son was watching TV that day, and it still pains me to think about what he was subjected to," Kiunjuri stated.
Despite the incident, Kiunjuri emphasized he harbored no resentment toward Kenyatta, who later dismissed him from his post early in 2020. "I choose to remember the good things. I have immense respect for the President and am grateful for the opportunity to serve," he said.
Kiunjuri announced the formation of The Service Party (TSP) after losing faith in the Jubilee Party, which he had previously helped establish by merging the Grand National Unity (GNU) coalition. "I folded GNU to form Jubilee, but I no longer believe in the current party structure," he remarked.
