On Sunday morning, a horrific road accident occurred in Kilgoris, involving 800m world record holder and two-time Olympic champion David Rudisha.

Fortunately, Rudisha emerged unhurt from the accident, although his car suffered significant damage.

"I am well and unhurt from this morning's accident. Thank you for your prayers and concern. And above all I thank God for keeping everyone else involved safe," Rudisha said on Sunday afternoon.

He also expressed gratitude to the first responders who rushed to the scene to assist him, as well as the other road users who helped him out of the car.

According to eyewitnesses, Rudisha's Toyota V8 collided head-on with a commuter bus, but fortunately, he escaped with only slight leg injuries.

His accident serves as a stark reminder of the alarming rise in road accidents on Kenyan roads in recent times.
