As the European transfer window draws to a close on September 2, 2019, Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal's future at the club remains uncertain.

According to reports, Real Sociedad has made a late move to bring the 33-year-old Spaniard back to Spain, with Monreal reportedly agreeing to a two-year contract with the club.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Monreal started in Arsenal's 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on August 24, 2019, and has been a key player in the team's three Premier League matches this season.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has confirmed that Monreal's future at the club is uncertain, stating that there is 'one possibility' that is open and that the team will speak about it in the coming days.

Emery praised Monreal's professionalism and performance in the match, saying, 'He made a very big match, very big match, and he's a very big professional for us. It's one issue, we need to speak the next days because in Europe the transfer window isn't finished yet.'

Monreal's potential departure from Arsenal comes as the team has revamped its backline with the arrival of David Luiz from Chelsea and Kieran Tierney from Celtic.
