Published on August 25, 2019, by Caroline Njung'E, a writer for the Daily Nation, highlights a vital lesson we can learn from touts.

These individuals are known for their confidence and uninhibited nature, which allows them to speak their minds freely, without fear of judgment or repercussions.

Unlike many of us, who often feel the need to behave in a certain way in public, touts are unapologetic and unafraid to express themselves. They address people with titles such as 'boss' or 'madam' without hesitation, and will even make humorous comments about their customers, like the tout who remarked, 'Heh, kamum, hiyo nikijifunika nayo nalala the whole day …'

Their confidence and lack of self-consciousness are traits that many of us struggle with, particularly when it comes to public speaking. We often worry about how we sound, how we look, and what people think about what we're saying, which can hold us back in many areas of our lives.

Imagine if we had an uninhibited nature like touts; if we learnt to speak our mind more; if we stopped caring too much what people would think of us if we said or did what we really wanted. If we gave ourselves permission to be ourselves, we might find that we're more confident and successful in our personal and professional lives.
