Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has established The Service Party (TSP), a new political entity registered after meeting all legal requirements, according to a launch event held in Nairobi.
The party's headquarters are located at 14 Riverside Drive in Westlands, Nairobi, where Kiunjuri announced the organization's nationwide network. He noted that many regional officials could not attend due to government-imposed travel restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kiunjuri, who was removed from his Cabinet position by President Kenyatta in early 2020, stated the TSP would prioritize grassroots political engagement. 'We have listened carefully to Kenyans and made the commitment to bring forth a platform that as our name suggests, will be unequivocal about service delivery to our people,' he said.
The party's slogan, 'Huduma-Twajiamini,' reflects its focus on public service. Kiunjuri emphasized the organization's long-term vision, stating, 'TSP believed that Kenya will change dramatically over the next decade. We have the opportunity to pull together and ensure that those changes are fair, inclusive, sustainable, and will positively impact our shared destiny.'
Addressing his political future, Kiunjuri declared, 'Make no mistake. I am not going anywhere, I will be with you around. For any action, there will be a reaction. You keep it cool; I keep it cool.' His remarks underscored a determination to remain active in Kenyan politics despite his Cabinet dismissal.
