Former President Daniel Moi was counted in the 2019 census at his Kabarak home on Saturday, August 24, at 10 pm. He was among the first Kenyans to be counted in the exercise.
According to a statement from his office, Moi was counted by Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui, who led the exercise at his residence.
"Former President Moi is among the Kenyans who will be counted tonight when the government officially begins the census exercise," the statement read.
During the exercise, Moi was reportedly calm and enjoyed participating in the exercise, urging Kenyans to be counted.
He noted that the exercise was crucial as it would help the government in planning, including the allocation of funds to boost the country's economy.
His son, Senator Gideon Moi, who was also counted, urged Kenyans to cooperate with census officials and not to give them a hard time while they were doing their job.
The census exercise is expected to be completed on Saturday, August 31, at 4 pm.
