On August 24, 2019, a somber mood filled the air as mourners gathered to bid farewell to John De Mathew. His daughter, Lucy Wanjiku, took to the podium to eulogize her father, leaving the audience in tears.
Addressing President Uhuru Kenyatta, Wanjiku described her father as a hardworking man who ensured they lacked nothing. She fondly remembered his teachings and the memories they shared together.
Wanjiku revealed that three days before her father's death, she had a dream about a road accident. In the dream, she saw her father's car catch fire in a roundabout. Although she didn't share the dream with anyone, she prayed about it, unaware that it would become a tragic reality.
With tears streaming down her face, Wanjiku expressed her gratitude towards her father for teaching her valuable life skills, including household chores. She also shared a poignant message, saying, 'Your clothes are all ironed in the closet but have no one to wear them.'
As she concluded her eulogy, Wanjiku showered her father with love, saying, 'Daddy rest in peace. Daddy in my heart, I will always love you. I will never ever in my life forget the memories we shared together. I will place them in my heart.'
