On August 24, 2019, Lucy Wanjiku, one of John De Mathew's children, delivered a poignant eulogy at her father's funeral, moving mourners to tears with her words.
Addressing President Uhuru Kenyatta, Lucy described her father as 'my son, my daddy, my smile keeper, my encourager, and above all, a treasure I kept in my heart.'
She remembered her father as a hardworking man who ensured they lacked nothing, and shared a personal story about a dream she had three days before his death.
According to Lucy, the dream was about a road accident involving her father, and she had prayed about it without sharing it with her family members.
With tears in her eyes, Lucy expressed gratitude for the memories she shared with her father, saying, 'Daddy, rest in peace. Daddy, in my heart, I will always love you. I will never ever in my life forget the memories we shared together; I will place them in my heart.'
As she struggled to hold back her tears, Lucy implored her father to 'come back home,' acknowledging that he was only 'sleeping in a place where all angels are watching over you.'
