As Kenya prepares for the 2019 census, the Interior Ministry has directed County Security and Intelligence Committees to intensify security during the period.

According to a letter from Interior Principal Secretary Moffat Kangi to the Inspector General of Police, the government wants to ensure that all travellers are enumerated on the census night.

Mr. Kangi requested the IG to mount roadblocks along major roads from August 24-31, between 6pm and 10pm, to facilitate the enumeration of travellers.

Only long-distance vehicles will be stopped at the roadblocks for the purposes of census enumeration.

Mr. Kangi stated that the census personnel will be stationed at the roadblocks to verify whether all travellers have been enumerated and count those who will not have been enumerated.
