On August 24, 2019, thousands of mourners gathered at Githambia Primary School in Kitanga, Murang'a county to pay their last respects to the late John De'Mathew, a renowned Kikuyu benga musician.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga are expected to lead other mourners in paying their last tribute to the fallen musician.

De'Mathew died in a road crash near Thika Town on Sunday, August 18, night, while driving home from a friend's medical fundraiser.

He was an inspiration to many young and upcoming musicians and will be remembered for his dedication to making the society a better place through music and charity works.

As the icon is laid to rest, his song, Peris Nduku, has turned out to be one of the most outstanding in relation to how he died.

The song, released in 1987, narrated how his lover died in a grisly road crash as they went to visit his parents in Gatanga.

He warned that sometimes vehicles are unreliable.
