Published on August 24, 2019, a report by Weekly Citizen exposed the alarming tribalism at Moi University, with a significant number of Kalenjins holding key positions.

The university's management team of eight has half of its members from the Kalenjin community, led by VC Prof. Isaac Kosgey and Prof. Isaac Kimengi, the DVC academics, research and extension.

Other key positions held by Kalenjins include Prof. Daniel Tarus, DVC finance, and Petrolina Chepkwony, the institution's senior legal officer.

At the registrars' level, Dr. Peter Ruto and Dr. David Ruto, both Kalenjins, hold key positions.

Additionally, the deans of schools, including Dr. Dinah Chelagat, Prof. Ambrose Kiprop, and Prof. John Changa'ch, are also Kalenjins.

The trend is even more worrying, given that almost all the directors are from the Kalenjin community, including Dr. Joyce Komen, Prof. Michael Korir, and Dr. Charles Lagat.
