On August 24, 2019, Kenyan girls made a triumphant return to the top of the East Africa athletics title at the Sheikh Abeid Memorial Stadium in Arusha.
They secured 18 medals, consisting of seven gold, five silver, and six bronze, to reclaim the crown from Uganda, who had relegated them to second spot in previous years.
Uganda finished second with six gold, eight silver, and four bronze medals, while hosts Tanzania took two gold, two silver, and five bronze medals.
The boys' team, however, maintained their dominance in the track and field events, retaining the trophy with 11 gold, six silver, and four bronze medals.

The double victory saw Kenyans secure the overall athletics title with 39 medals, with Uganda finishing second with 34 and Tanzania third with 15.
Yesterday, Johnstone Meli won gold in the boys' 5000m event in 14 minutes and 15.9 seconds, with Tanzania's Matayo Sombi finishing 12.1 seconds later and Kenya's Jackson Kavesa trailing 11 seconds behind to take bronze.
Emmaculate Anyango clocked 9:36.7 to win gold in the girls' 3,000m event, while home girls Aisha Khamisi (9:52.6) and Naomi Yombo (9:56.4) settled for silver and bronze respectively.
Kenya extended their dominance, winning both the boys' and girls' 800m events, with Nelly Chepchirchir striking gold in 2:12.4 and Leah Jeruto finishing second in 2:13.2.
Joseph Rotiken (1:54.0) and Francis Leshoo (1:54.9) led a Kenyan 1-2 sweep in the 800m event, with Rwandese Ingabire Victoire finishing third in 1:57.4.
Brian Tinega (48.0) and Benard Kiptoo (49.5) won gold and bronze for Kenya in the 400m race, with Layeng Sibryanda of Uganda settling for silver in 48.9.
Kenya also won gold in the boys' triple jump and discus through Denis Kangogo (1.56) and Nathan Kibiwott (44:19).
