On Thursday, President Uhuru Kenyatta reorganized government ministries, issuing an Executive Order dated August 22, 2019.

As a result, the Department of Immigration has been merged with the Interior Affairs docket at the Interior Ministry, leaving two departments at the ministry.

Previously, the Interior Ministry had three state departments: Immigration and Citizen Services, Correctional Services, and Interior Affairs.

The move means Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has been added more duties, including coordinating the delivery of national priorities and flagship programs, as well as maintaining national cohesion and values.

Other ministries affected include the Irrigation docket, which has been moved from the Ministry of Agriculture to the Ministry of Water & Sanitation and Irrigation, renamed from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Irrigation.

The Ministry of Public Service, Youth & Gender has been mandated to conduct public service performance management and monitoring.
