Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken out against racist abuse targeting Paul Pogba, saying it only makes the player stronger.
The abuse came after Pogba missed a penalty in Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Wolves on Monday, following similar incidents involving Chelsea's Tammy Abraham and Reading's Yakou Meite.
Solskjaer has urged social media companies to do more to combat the abuse, saying: 'Paul is fine. Paul is a strong character and it makes him stronger.'
He also expressed frustration that such incidents still occur in 2019, stating: 'Social media is a place where people can hide behind fake identities. There's so many Ole Gunnar Solskjaers on social media that I know are not me.'
Twitter has agreed to meet with United representatives in the next few weeks to discuss the issue, and Solskjaer wants to see strides made in tackling the 'serious' problem.
However, he has ruled out banning his players from using social media, saying: 'We need to protect individuals. When there's death threats and racism, that's serious.'
