On August 23, 2019, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya addressed a meeting to assess the progress in revenue collection, following the suspension of 143 revenue clerks two weeks prior.

He emphasized that rewarding county officials with tenders constitutes a conflict of interest, and those found guilty would face disciplinary action.

During the meeting, Oparanya also highlighted the county's potential to rise above Ksh1 billion annually in revenue, but noted that this goal was not being met.

Reports from the Executive Committee Members (CEMs) indicated an improvement in daily collections, prompting Oparanya to encourage the exploration of new revenue streams.

He urged the Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to sensitize the business community on their statutory obligation to pay taxes.
