Published on August 23, 2019, a time when luxury was at its peak in Kenya.

Kenya's wealthy elite have always been known for their love of luxury, and what better way to showcase it than with a customized car number plate?

However, this luxury comes at a steep price, with costs ranging from 30,000 to 1 million shillings.

According to reports, only five Kenyans have managed to afford the 1 million shilling option, which allows them to have their names or initials engraved on their car's number plate.

Among these exclusive few are business mogul Chris Kirubi, who owns three cars with personalized plates, and flamboyant Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, who owns one of the other four cars.

International football stars MacDonald Mariga and his younger brother Victor Wanyama, who is the captain of Kenya's men football team Harambee Stars, also own customized number plates.

It's clear that owning a customized car number plate is a status symbol in Kenya, and one that only a select few can afford.
