Published on August 23, 2019, Arsenal head coach Unai Emery has indicated that Shkodran Mustafi and Mohamed Elneny are surplus to requirements, suggesting it would be beneficial for them to leave the club before the European transfer window closes.

Neither player has been part of a matchday squad this season, and Emery has already spoken to them about their situation. He wants the players to be happy and be protagonists, but feels that Mustafi and Elneny are not getting the chances they need to show their capacity and be happy with the team.

Emery believes it is positive for them to leave and sign for another team where they can be protagonists, happy, and continue their careers as players. He wishes them the best and thinks now the best for them is to be protagonists in another team, to sign, and get another challenge for them and continue with another team.

Meanwhile, Emery is ready to hand Ivory Coast winger Nicolas Pepe his first Arsenal start in the Premier League trip to Liverpool on Saturday. Pepe has been progressively feeling better and his individual performances have been getting better, with Emery considering giving him more minutes.
