Guardian Angel, the 'Nadeka' hitmaker, was recently selected to perform at the Madaraka Day celebrations this year, an honour he cherished.

His selection came just days after releasing a song titled 'Kenya', sponsored by the Permanent Presidential Music Commission, a government department that coordinates music and dance activities in the country.

Guardian Angel explained that 'Kenya' is meant to remind his fellow countrymen that God loves Kenya, despite the many challenges it is facing.

During an interview with Word Is, Guardian Angel shared his experience of shaking hands with President Uhuru for the first time.

He expressed his desire to discuss the issue of artistes' royalties with the President, stating,

“If I got a chance to talk to the President, I would only ask him to find a better way that we artistes can get royalties at the right time and in the right way,” he said.

Guardian Angel also touched on the controversy surrounding the Kenya Copyright Board and Music Copyright Society of Kenya, which artistes have been criticising for paying peanuts against their hard work.

He shared the explanation given by MCSK, stating that artistes should appreciate they got something over a long period, and that it was the general revenue they had collected that they got to distribute to them.
