John Paul Mwirigi, the youngest MP in the country, has become the talk of the town after his colleagues reminded him that leadership comes with responsibilities, including marriage.

At 23, Mwirigi became the Igembe South MP, and his colleagues, Kubai Kiringo and Kathuri Murungi, told him during his graduation ceremony at Riaki Primary School grounds that he had come of age and should get a 'beautiful, disciplined lady of stature and character.'

On August 9, Mwirigi graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree from Mount Kenya University, and Murungi offered to help him find the 'beautiful lady of stature and character.'

When reached for comment, Mwirigi said no one can determine his future life, and now is the time for championing development in the constituency.

Published on August 23, 2019, Mwirigi has been remembered for his grey-sweater campaign posters in 2017, when he ran on an independent ticket with no campaign funds.

He depended on well-wishers and campaigned on foot, managing to traverse the constituency until voters were convinced that he was their best bet.

After his election, President Uhuru Kenyatta gifted him a Toyota Prado, which was handed over at the State Lodge, Sagana, ending his commuting woes.

Mwirigi says his energy is directed at delivering his manifesto pledges to his constituents, and he has already disbursed bursaries worth millions of shillings to needy learners in his constituency.
