Family Bank Hacker Charged With Attempting to Steal, Released on Cash Bail

On diverse dates between November 1, 2018 and January 20, 2019, a man allegedly hacked into Family Bank's systems and attempted to steal. The suspect, Geoffrey Oduor Ojow, who goes by the aliases 'Jojo Odukuzi' and 'Jeff Mzee', was presented before a Nairobi Court on Thursday.

According to the court, Jeff Mzee unlawfully remotely gained access to Family Bank Limited's networks systems, thereby infringing their information security measures. He was also charged with intent to commit an offence namely stealing from the said bank.

Mr. Oduor pleaded not guilty to the charges and requested lenient bail/bond terms before Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Zainab Abdul. He was released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 with an alternative bond of Sh500,000.

The hearing of the case was set for September 26, 2019. The incident occurred in 2018 and 2019, with the court proceedings taking place in August 2019.
