On August 22, 2019, Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu launched a water pan rehabilitation project, funded by the World Bank, in Mbitini Ward, Kitui Rural Constituency.

The 60 million-litre Kwa-Isiki water pan will provide water for domestic use and livestock, reducing the need for long-distance water collection from rivers.

As part of the project, nine farm ponds will be constructed, and landscaping will be carried out to improve the area.

Ngilu emphasized the importance of the project, stating, “This project is of great help to our people who have lacked water for domestic use and for their livestock. As an administration, we are keen on provision of water,”

The governor also announced plans to engage other development partners to secure funding for future projects, including the rehabilitation of the Kitui County Textile Centre, which she hailed as a significant improvement for local residents.
