19-year-old girl arrested for alleged abortion in Khwisero

On August 21, 2019, police in Khwisero arrested a 19-year-old girl accused of procuring an abortion and burying the foetus in a banana plantation.

The girl was arrested at her grandfather’s home in Emulepa village after a tip-off from Nyumba Kumi community policing members.

Area Chief Walter Mukungu said police managed to exhume the foetus from a freshly-dug shallow grave.

“We received a tip-off about the incident and managed to exhume the foetus from a freshly-dug shallow grave,” Chief Mukungu said.

The girl was arrested while sleeping in her grandfather’s house.

Police are waiting for a doctor’s report to inform investigations before arraigning the suspect.

Chief Mukungu also expressed concern over the increasing cases of early pregnancies among students in the sub-county.

Meanwhile, police in Malava sub-county have arrested a 35-year-old man who allegedly sodomised a 14-year-old boy at Shamberere village.
