Italian international defender Davide Zappacosta has signed a new one-year deal with Chelsea, the Premier League giants announced on August 22, 2019. The 27-year-old has joined Italian side Roma on loan.
Since joining Chelsea from Torino in 2017, Zappacosta has played 52 games for the Stamford Bridge landlords. He was also part of the Chelsea squad that won the 2018/19 Europa League title, beating Arsenal 4-1 in Baku.
After their failure to finish among the top four teams in Italy, Roma will compete in the Europa League this term under new manager Paulo Fonseca. Fonseca replaced former Leicester City gaffer Claudio Ranieri, who was asked to leave after the end of last season in Italy.
Meanwhile, Zappacosta's teammates at Chelsea will campaign this season in the Champions League after finishing among the top four last term under Maurizio Sarri.
