Man Charged with Hacking into Family Bank Systems

Published on August 22, 2019, a man was arraigned before a Nairobi court to answer to cyber-crime charges after allegedly gaining access to Family Bank's systems and attempting to steal from the financial institution.

Geoffrey Oduor Ojow, alias Jojo Odukuzi and Jeff Mzee, an alleged hacker, was charged with unauthorized access to computer data contrary to the law.

The court heard that Mr. Oduor unlawfully remotely gained access to Family Bank Limited's networks systems between November 1, 2018 and January 20, 2019, thereby infringing their information security measures.

He was also charged with intent to commit an offence, namely stealing from the said bank.

Appearing before Milimani Law Courts Magistrate Zainab Abdul, Mr. Oduor pleaded not guilty to the charges and prayed for leniency in granting bail/bond terms.

He was released on a cash bail of Ksh.300,000 with an alternative bond of Ksh.500,000.

The case was set for hearing on September 26, 2019.
