On August 22, 2019, Chama Cha Mashinani leader Isaac Rutto shared his thoughts on the state of opposition politics in Kenya. He argued that the government has relaxed because there is no strong opposition to keep it in check.
Rutto, a former Bomet Governor, criticized politicians who claim to be the opposition but have little impact. He pointed out that only Raila Odinga has successfully managed to play opposition politics effectively, citing his 'muscle, intelligence, and bravery' as key factors.
According to Rutto, leading the opposition from outside parliament is akin to driving a bus without being in it. He emphasized the importance of having opposition leaders in Parliament to provide checks and balances to the government.
During an interview, Rutto also revealed that he had met with Raila Odinga to discuss the impending Mau evictions. He stated that the meeting aimed to find a lasting solution to the settlement of families living along the Mau Forest.
