On August 22, 2019, the sedition case against Tanzanian politician Tundu Lissu was adjourned to September 23, 2019, following his absence from court.

Lissu, a former Singida East legislator, is recovering in a Belgian hospital after escaping an assassination attempt outside his Dodoma home in 2017.

State attorney Sylivia Mitando requested the adjournment, citing Lissu's absence from the country.

Principal resident magistrate Thomas Simba granted the request, setting a new hearing date for September 23, 2019.

Lissu and three others, including editors of local publication Mawio and a director of Jamana Printers, face five charges, including sedition, for violating the Newspaper Act of 2002.

The charges stem from an article published in Mawio in January 2016, which allegedly incited hatred among Zanzibaris.
