On August 22, 2019, a court in Mombasa delivered a ruling that would change the fate of 13 students from Moi University.

The students had been left out of the graduation list ahead of the 38th graduation ceremony, which took place on Thursday.

Justice Pauline Nyamweya criticized the university for its failure to include the students on the graduation list, calling it a discriminatory and unfair action.

The judge ruled that the university's decision was a violation of the students' rights and denied them freedom from psychological torture and fair administrative action, as stated in the Constitution.

The court also found that the university's decision was a violation of the students' legitimate expectations.

As a result, the court ordered Moi University to pay Sh50,000 to each of the 13 students.
