Ruto Honors Mzee Kenyatta's Legacy at Memorial

On Thursday, Deputy President William Ruto led a memorial ceremony to honor the country's first President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, who passed away on August 22, 1978, at the age of 86.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ruto described Kenyatta's legacy as Harambee, Uhuru na Kazi, which he said is the foundation of the Big Four agenda anchored by the three Presidents.

"Uhuru na kazi philosophy is the foundation the 3 Presidents have anchored the Big Four agenda. Today as we remember Mzee it should inspire us to work together behind President Uhuru Kenyatta," Ruto said as he welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta to speak.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was 14 years old when his father passed away, described his father as a man who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.

"41 years ago is still vividly..some of us can’t imagine life without him. It constantly reminds us the purposes he stood for…what we do everyday that makes impact in someone’s life..what motivates us to do what we do. We will then realize that we moving Kenya forward," he said.
