Thirty suspected gang members linked to the Bamburi attacks in Mombasa County have been detained for two more weeks to allow the court to determine their ages.
Senior Magistrate Edgar Kagioni ordered the suspects to be remanded until September 4 to establish whether they are students or not.
Eight of the suspects claim to be below 18 years old, while nine insist they are students at secondary schools around Mombasa.
On August 5, 2019, the suspects allegedly attacked Wilfred Nicholas Mwangi in the Lakeview area of Bamburi, Nyali Constituency, while heavily armed with pangas and knives.
They allegedly robbed Mwangi of Ksh. 126,000 in cash and a mobile phone worth Ksh. 13,999.
The court also heard that the gang, known as 'Wakali Kwanza,' robbed area residents of an unknown amount of money and was also charged with illegal possession of military uniforms and trafficking 77 sachets of heroin valued at Ksh. 15,400.
On Wednesday, all the suspects pleaded not guilty to the ten counts of armed robbery.
