Uber has announced a 29% price hike for its ride services in Kenya, effective immediately.
For instance, a ride from Upper Hill to KICC, which previously cost Ksh. 780, will now cost around Ksh. 1005, after adding a 29% increase of Ksh. 225.
The move is aimed at improving customer experience and ensuring safety during rides, according to the company.
Despite registering losses worth $3 billion last year, Uber's market value soared to $90 billion at the New York Stock Exchange in May, prompting investors to demand profits to match the company's massive market value.
Uber drivers had previously complained about poor treatment from management and meager earnings, which they blamed for their 'ungodly tendencies'.
