As smartphones continue to play a vital role in our daily lives, maintaining their battery life has become a top priority. However, as batteries age, they gradually lose their ability to hold charge. Fortunately, there are several ways to get more on-screen time by minimizing battery drainage.
Stay Up-to-Date with Software Updates ¶
Keeping your phone's software up-to-date may seem like a hassle, but it has several advantages, including getting the most battery life possible. You can check for updates by navigating to Settings > System > System Updates.
Make the Most of Battery Saver ¶
Most smartphones come with a built-in battery saver feature that restricts your phone's capabilities to extract the most possible battery life. On iPhone, it's called Low Power Mode. Enabling this feature can significantly extend your battery life.
Dim the Display ¶
Lowering the brightness setting on your smartphone can get you an extra two hours of battery life. This is especially true for power users who rely heavily on their devices.
Switch to Dark Mode ¶
Google has confirmed that dark mode saves power on Android devices, just like iOS's Night Mode. This is because individual pixels have to do less work on dark areas of the screen, using practically no juice at all when displaying true black. Many apps have dark mode options, so consider turning them on.
Limit Background Battery Use ¶
Apps running in the background can significantly drain your battery life. Check your phone's battery usage page to see which apps are consuming the most power. You can choose to allow specific apps to run in the background, set it for all apps, or prevent specific apps from doing so.
Turn Off Location Services ¶
Some apps, like Google Maps, require location services to function. However, these services can quickly drain your battery life. Turn them on only when necessary to conserve battery power.
