Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has spoken out against Manchester United, claiming he didn't feel protected during his time at the club.

Speaking on the Lightharted podcast with NBA star Josh Hart, Lukaku revealed that he felt unprotected and unwanted at Old Trafford towards the end of his Manchester United career.

"A lot of stuff has been said, but I didn't feel protected I felt like a lot of rumours, trade rumours, Rom is gonna go there...they don't want Rom, and nobody came out and shut them down," Lukaku said.

He went on to explain that he waited for three to four weeks for someone to shut down the transfer rumours, but it never happened.

"For Three four weeks I'm waiting until someone comes and shuts it down it didn't happen and I'm like oh so thats how its gonna be? Lukaku said.

He also expressed his frustration with the situation, stating that he felt unwanted by many people at the club and that he would not be part of a system that made him feel that way.

"There is fighting for your position and being somewhere where people want you to be. If you're happy, you find a way, it doesn't matter if you're on the bench or starting," he said.

Lukaku also denied responsibility for leaking transfer rumours, stating that he and his agent did not leak any information.

"So I analysed it for two three weeks and I see all this on social media who leaks it? not me, not my agent. We just see it on my phone and i'm like what's that?" Lukaku said.

He also expressed his confusion over how he performed so well at international level and could simply not do the same at Man United.

"The thing that confused me is that how is it that when im playing with the national team so well and nobody there complains," Lukaku said.

He also acknowledged that the two games were different, but was convinced that the style of play at Old Trafford and the Belgian Red Devils was virtually the same.

"When I go and play for my country I mean hey I play well, we play the same style of play that we wanna play in both Belgium that we do at Man United....so is it me?," Lukaku said.
