Published on August 22, 2019, Kenya Airways has contracted a British aviation company, Aviation and Aeroscope Consulting Services, to investigate a plane collision at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) earlier this year.
The incident involved two Embraer jets that collided while undergoing repair in a hangar in February. The investigation will aim to determine the circumstances leading to the collision and will be completed within 12 months.
According to Aviation and Aeroscope Consulting Services, Kenya Airways has suffered a number of maintenance incidents resulting in serious damage to aircraft, including the collision of two Embraer aircraft during engine runs.
Kenya Airways cited a lack of local experts with international recognition as the reason for hiring the British firm, which will be paid Sh25 million for the investigation.
Aviation and Aeroscope Consulting Services has also pointed out operational weaknesses in the maintenance program of Kenya Airways, which has seen several planes develop mechanical problems.
