Uhuru Kenyatta Meets Former History Teacher 35 Years Later ¶
On August 21, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta met his former history teacher, Zelia Pareira, at St. Mary's Secondary School in Nairobi.
Uhuru and Pareira had a memorable encounter 35 years ago when Uhuru was a student at the school. Pareira taught Uhuru history, and the two have maintained a close relationship over the years.
Jeff Koinange, a Kenyan journalist, shared a photo of the meeting on his Twitter account, saying, "Je waeza baini ni nani amekutana na mwalimu wake wa Historia baada ya miaka 35? Rais mwenyewe! Tulikuwa na wakati wa kufana sana! Shukran Bi Pereira kwa kutukuza vyema tukiwa wachanga!"
After completing his secondary education, Uhuru went on to study economics and international relations at Amherst College in the United States. He later returned to Kenya and founded Wilhelmina Kenya Limited, a company that imports and exports agricultural products.
Uhuru also worked as a bank manager at the Kenya Commercial Bank from 1979 to 1980.
