On August 21, 2019, Dubai-based investor Ricardo Badoer sought a commercial free-to-air television licence for Madgoat TV (MGTV), a sports and entertainment channel available online.
MGTV, owned by Badoer Investment Limited, streams local Wazito Football Club games live and has broadcast rights for Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) tournaments and the SportPesa Shield semi-finals matches.
At the beginning of the year, Badoer Investment Limited signed a five-year deal worth Sh100 million with KBF, granting it broadcast rights on the online and expected free air TV channel.
According to a gazette notice by the Communication's Authority, Director General Francis Wangusi, the licence will enable MGTV to operate and provide commercial free-to-air television services.
Wangusi also notified the public that any legal or natural person or group of individuals who wish to make representations or objections to the application should do so via a letter.
