On August 10, 2019, the Nairobi Central Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church was closed by the government due to security concerns, as directed by Nairobi County Commissioner Flora Mworoa.
According to a press statement issued by the church members on Wednesday, the directive stipulated that the church would remain shut until the two warring parties reached an agreement.
However, the church was re-opened under unclear circumstances, prompting the members to express their dismay.
They dismissed reports claiming that the group had snubbed a meeting convened at Nairobi Area Headquarters to discuss the matter, stating that they were neither invited nor aware of such a meeting.
The church members also questioned the re-opening of the church, citing the lack of resolution of the underlying issues.
They pointed out that a cleansing ceremony was performed by the church leadership and some elders on Friday evening, which they deemed suspicious and unbelievable.
Furthermore, the members alleged that the church leadership posted goons at the gate to vet members of their group, preventing those targeted from accessing the church.
